DRAGON POKER!
Yes. Here, you can play dragon poker. The suits are:
Dragons (diamonds)
Flits (hearts)
Sheaves (spades)
Whers (clubs)
The facecards will be:
Weyrleader (king)
Weyrwoman (queen)
Lord (jack)
The rest of the cards are the same.
The game will be played like Texas Hold 'Em. That's a link to the Wiki page for the game.
Basically, the rules are as follows:
1. 1M ante to get in.
2. You will be dealt two cards via PM, these cards cannot be turned in or exchanged. You can fold if they are not to your liking, but the ante stays in the pot.
Once everyone has ante'd and been given their "pocket" cards (the cards sent via PM), the "flop" will be laid down. These are three, face up community cards.
At this point, the betting will begin. I play no-limit hold 'em, so there is no limit in the bets. Based on the five cards you have in play (2 pocket and 3 community), you make your bet.
When all the bets are in, the turn (fourth street) is revealed. This is a fourth community card. Now, the game is played with the BEST 5 CARDS the player has. So of the 6 cards you now have, you only use 5 of them for your hand. The betting is done, then in.
After the bets are in, the river (fifth street) is revealed. This is the final card. There are now 5 cards showing on the table, and you have 2 pocket cards. You will use your 2 pocket cards, and three of the cards showing, to make a 5 card hand. The final bets are done.
Finally, the showdown. All players reveal their pocket cards. The player with best 5 cards wins the pot.
Example:
Ante
Player#1 is given a Lord of Dragons and a Weyrleader of Dragons. This is a high and matched pocket hand.
Bet
The flop is thrown. It reveals a 2 of Dragons, a Weyrwoman of Sheaves, and a 4 of Flits.
So far, this gives Player#1 a Lord, Weyrleader, and 2 of Dragons with a Weyrwoman of Sheaves and a 4 of Flits.
For a straight, s/he needs an ace. For a flush, s/he needs 2 more Dragons
Bet
Fourth street is thrown. It's a 5 of Flits.
Bet
Fifth street is thrown. It's an Ace of Dragons.
Player#1 now has an ace-high straight.
FINAL BET
The showdown. With a straight like this, a royal flush would beat it... Basic five card poker with a twist. Pretty much. I would really suggest scanning the link if you don't know how to play the game.
The best thing about no-limit hold 'em is if you have an awesome hand, you can go all in. This means you bet all your marks against everyone's hands that you have the best. It's also a good way to either lose your money or bluff your oponents.
While we're playing, I will actually be using a real deck to simulate things while I deal. This is just to keep things straight. As dealer, I will not be playing because I know what everyone has (I have to PM you your cards, anyway). If anyone else wants to deal, that's fine.
There will be a mini version of the game at the Gather, too. And the best part about this? No buy in. This means it doesn't cost you anything to get in the game. All you have to do is ante for a hand.
