With Thread long gone from the skies of Pern, the dragons are forced to come up with other ways of occupying themselves. When all of Pern has been explored, the Weyrs can support themselves without the need of tithes or charity from the Holds or Crafts, when dragons languished with naught to do, the riders of Pern looked once again to the Past, to an idea had by one of the most famous Weyrleaders of Pern, F’lar of bronze Mnementh. They looked once more to the sky.

An alternate-universe, post-AIVAS Pern RPG, Cyadon takes place on the fourth planet in Rukbat’s system, a planet made tropical by the manageable greenhouse effect that developed. The Pernese have long settled on the planet and established a fairly diverse population. The new creatures on this planet have been mostly discovered and utilized, and the Weyrs have spread out and settled in. But despite the scene of peace on this wooded, tropical planet, there is a growing undertone of unrest....

Almost 200 turns ago, Thread failed to fall from the skies, raining down it’s deadly enemy. Some say that Thread would never fall again, while the dragonriders never stood down its vigilante watch over the skies.

However, it was a mixed blessing that Thread never came. Towards the end of the Lost Pass (as it was come to be known), a terrible airborne flu stuck at the lands of Pern. Dragonriders and Holders alike fell victim to the deadly disease, killing off almost a quarter of the population. To those that rode dragons, the loss was even more devastating. Only four Queens survived the epidemic, with only two of those Queens still in the prime of their fertile time. The Weyrs struggled with what to do, but soon it became clear that they would have to consolidate their numbers. Closing down first Ista and High Reaches, and then Igen and Telgar when their Queens failed to rise or produce a Queen to replace them. They watched as their numbers dwindle, as more riders died than eggs being laid.

Fast forwards almost 150 turns, Fort and Benden are beginging to once again fill those long empty weyrs, forcing the opening of not only one new weyr but two, High Reaches and Igen.

Fort Weyr
Boasting and unheard of five Queens, the weyr prospect is once again a good one. However, things aren’t always what they seem. Unknown to all but a few the Senior Weyrwomen is slowing dying, and the oldest Junior is quickly coming to the end of her prime fertile turns. Rumors are flying that the Weyr Council will be opening up High Reaches soon, and, much like Telgar, that it will be Fort that will be supplying her with its Weyrwomen. Rider and Resident alike are jostling to either be picked to go or to stay.

Benden Weyr
The Weyr of Unbelievers, that is what the 2nd Weyr has become known as by those at the 1st. A Weyr of strict hierarchy and traditionalist, Benden is far from an idyllic place filled with fear and Gold and Bronzeriders are the “nobles” of the Weyr, getting all the best and don’t do any of the work. Brownriders are the true leaders of the Weyr, but don’t let those with the ranking dragons know, as some that have voice their concern have “disappeared”. Women at Benden have almost no rights, instead they are thought of as breeders and drudges. They are only searched for anything but gold, and those that do impress greens are thought of as freaks and are quickly shipped to Fort.

Telgar Hold
To the Holds, the idea that Thread is coming back is blasphemy to speak of. The tithes have been sending to the weyrs have been getting smaller and smaller with some Holds threatening to cut the Weyrs off completely. Those Holds that are traditionally beholden to Telgar have fought the hardest against the expansion of Fort Weyr and being forced to now tithe to a new weyr. Some say that the Lord Holder just might cause a coop of power. Some Holds have resisted the Telgar philosophy and some have embraced it whole heartily. Strife is inevitable, the question is only when it will happen.

Current Plots

At Fort Weyr

 • Senior Weyrwomen is slowly dying. Who will become Senior after her? The Weyr is slowly choosng sides, and many wonder what the change in the leadership means for the Weyr.
 • Rumors of the opening of Telgar Weyr and transfers from Fort to there, many wonder just who will be leaving the Weyr and just which one of the 5 Queenriders will be transferring to the newly opened Weyr.

At Benden Weyr

 • As always there is a stir of trouble as everyone has to tip-toe around the Weyrleader’s temper, even so it seems that one group particular has achieved the Weyrleader’s wraith, those that believe that Thread will return.
 • The newest Jr. Goldrider has risen for a long flight and has even laid a Gold Egg. Many are happy about the newest clutching, but with the rumors of the opening of Telgar Weyr, residents and riders alike wonder if this Gold will be shipped off to Telgar as quick as possible.

Upcoming Events

 • Dragon Hatching at Benden Weyr – Gold Egg
 • Major plots with LOTS of Canons pre-involved with plots.

Character’s Needed

 • Canon Goldriders
 • Bronzerider – Canon and Originals
 • Crafters
 • Candidates of All Colors
 • Holders to resist or assist the rise of Telgar Hold- Including the Lord Holder.

Gather! Gather! It’s a gather day!

No work for us, and Thread’s away.
Stalls are building, square’s swept clear,
Gather all from far and near.
Bring your marks and bring your wares,
Bring your family for there’s
Food and drink and fun and song.
The Hold flag flies; so gather along!

It's been a while since Pern held a Gather. Threadfall and plague have both made it impossible. But now...Now! We hold a Gather, our first but not our last. The Hold, Halls, and Weyr have given their best. I have seen Riders come and go from Solace. Bringing along weyrfolk and craftsmen alike to the Gather grounds. It brings joy to any to feel such high spirits and see a constant smile. Others are appearing as well, those from the North and South. All are welcome to attend the festivities, some of Solace's Riders even volunteered to bring those who are unable to find a Rider from their own Weyr to bring them over... I am proud of my Weyr and those who live in it.

The days are warming, spring is here. And soon! We will have another clutch on the sands. Not only are the Riders of the Weyr going about to bring guests, but also to see for potential Candidates. Our numbers are growing, the same can be said for the North and South. Queens are rising, eggs are hatching. It's a perfect time to be alive! Rumors are being heard within the walls of the all the Weyrs. It seems that the Games are to be held in the coming months! Yes, Pern is thriving and it's impossible to believe that the days hold nothing but excitement and joy.

Welcome to Solace

Located on the Western continent and it's island chain, the Weyr  known as Solace is open for all who wish to join. Set in the late 6th pass of an alternate Pern, Solace hosts new colors in all of the draconic kind. New species and new areas to explore. Solace is officially open to the public! Come by and have a look. Solace is a laid back forum, though there are big plots there isn't a rush to move them along. We are a “Semi to Advanced/Literate” forum, with many positions open for immediate creation. What we also have to offer:

.:Thanksgiving Gather- Solace holding her first Gather! Food, drink, fun, and drama. Relations build, break, or strengthen. All the fun of a Gather for those of the Weyr, Hold, and Halls. Come and enjoy the festivities! Even if you are new, you will be gifted with “Gather Marks” what more can you ask for? :.

.:Future Hatchings- Crimson Sara is due to lay her clutch and all are welcome to try out for a flitt. You know how those silly things are. They have a mind of their own....you may walk away with more than one. Not only are their flitt eggs about, but there is to be a clutched laid sometime this month. That means a Hatching is on it's way! Yes, scheduled for December we will be holding a Hatching, the first of our Crimson Arieath, the first Crimson to rise in the Weyr. :.

.:Needed Characters- Our forum is always looking for Candidates be they for Dragon or Wher. At this moment we are in need of Dragon Candidates. Not only that but Crafters to fill in the roles that are vital to Pern's way of life. Such positions as Master Crafter, Master Wherhandler are open. Even the position of Wherlingmaster. :.

.: Member interaction - A forum is nothing without it's Members. Come and have the chance to give your opinion on Solace freely. To pick who will be the next for the Month's spotlights. Not enough? How about having the option of picking or creating the next contest for the site! Better yet, having a say on what you would think may bring some new excitement to the Weyr. :.

.: Loose limitation - Every RP forum has rules, be they for the site itself. On character creation, race, etc. But do not let that intimidate you. Solace is rated “PG-13”, we understand that some characters are right down nasty, or insanely sweet. Some characters are murders while others have a hero complex. Bring them to Solace! Anything goes, and we mean it. :.

AIVAS does not exist, and the dragons still fight thread. This is how it looks to always be, and why not! Dragons need this purpose, as it is proven many times over in history. Yet, it seems it is a waning threat, as the star passes once again. Thread falls less often all the time now, and clutches are becoming smaller. A time of easy breathing is on its way.
Or is it?

In these smaller clutches though, some odd dragons have appeared. Female bronzes are just the start, what will come from this last clutch of Viriths?

Because this surely is her last clutch, the great golden queen lies dead from a thread fall tragedy.

Something happened last thread fall, the last queen made her flight as it fell.

It wasn't that the queen was ignorant to the thread fall, the thread was not meant to fall at that time. Something made the threads fall irregularly, not that that hadn't happened in the history of Pern before, but it wasn't something that was expected. Not only did it fall out of pattern, it fell in the wrong area of Pern than expected. It should have fallen closer to the south, not so far to the west.

The bronzes should have been fighting thread, but that instinct to fly the queen was stronger, and that urge took over. Thus Benecio dealt with a tragedy it was not accustomed to.

Leaving Benecio to deal with the thread that fell and destroyed most everything. At least everything around Benicio Weyr was in ruins. The browns, greens, and blues still fought, but with only the high level wing and with how erratically the threads fell, it was a dismal day for the Weyr.

The other dragons flew to fight thread, they returned thread scored and injured to the point where many of them were out of action for a while. And with only one wing, only a rough third of crops managed to be saved by the ground crew. All the burrows were found and burned out.

The queen was flown by the bronze who caught her, but when the flight was over and she came back, she was badly thread scored. It effected the clutch severely.

Many of the eggs were either too large or too small, 7 eggs in total there were, one could have passed as a gold, it surely looked like a gold, but it was not laid aside from the rest of the eggs. It was laid among them like it was any other egg. The queen herself passed days before the hatching, and her opaque body lay near the eggs of the sands, an ever silent sentinel of the last clutch she bore.

Today is the hatching, and no one knows what to expect. The Weyrwoman is devastated by the loss of her dragon, and the Weyrleader was driven to suicide, flying with his dragon between, never to return. With the death of Virith there is no queen in the Weyr. If that glimmering egg is not a Gold, the Wyer will be for the first time in it's history, queenless.

The entire Weyr is mourning the loss of their queen, and many are hopeful that the egg that seems like a potential queen, will indeed be the answers to their hopes.

But a call for a transfer has been mad as well. For no weyrling could lead the Weyr from hatching.

Add in the struggle for survival as Benecio weyr has lost its only gold and oldest bronze, and you have it! This is Benecio weyr, located on the Western coast. Can it cope with the deaths they have suffered? What happens when thread falls again?

Will the transfer queen be the answer? Or will that glimmering egg that keeps everyones hopes from plummeting?

Welcome to Benecio Weyr!

The world has become safe, secure and quiet. The heroes of the universe hold the peace, but now a new threat has come to pass. Mephisto has been plotting and scheming and has reached out to the others in the universe of like mind.

The demon has brought together an assembly of evil masterminds, from the likes of Doctor Doom, to the mutant extinctionist Apocalypse, the Mandarin, Ultron and many other dark beings and the strike was swift catching the forces of good off guard by confronting them with villians with whom they were not familiar.

In the mean time, in the ranks of the villians, private agendas have yet to be abandoned. In the wake of regaining his powers and the reversal of M Day, Magneto has re-emerged, as has professor Xavier, and the Avengers have reformed but is it all to late? And what is this shadow behind the masters of evil that seems to have an agenda all its own?

And let us not forget the factions that are still alive and work behind the scenes to rid the world of superheroes and mutants alike. Can the superheroes of the world defeat these manaces, or is the world as we know it doomed, destined to come to an end?

Are you a superhero or a supervillain? Then come on in, create a unique character all your own or claim an existing Canon character. Don't forget to read the rules and watch for exciting new plots!

Hope to see you soon!

Carew Weyr - Contest & Adoptable clutching female

Carew Weyr is now accepting applications for candidates, mature riders, weyrfolk and crafters. There are many ranking positions available for which to apply. As well, we have an adoptable Amber weyrling from the first clutch which can be applied for. We are also currently running a New Membership Recruitment Contest. Every new member that joins and his/her recruiter (if they have one) will be entered into a raffle to win one of Carew's new pets, which will be revealed in an in game plot within a few days. Click here for more details..

We are a mostly canon site at the moment with the exception of our new Amber dragons, but that may change if the plot allows. We are a moderate to advanced roleplaying group and appreciate quality of roleplay. Please stop over and check us out.

The History and Setting of Carew Weyr

Carew Weyr was established towards the end of the first interval, shortly after Benden, High Reaches and Telgar. In our setting, Ista Weyr does not exist and Carew Weyr was founded in its place. Likewise, Ista Hold does not exist. Instead the principle hold is Carew Hold. When Carew Weyr was established, its construction utilized the last of the energy of the ancients' rock cutting equipment, which enabled quite spacious and comfortable accommodations.

Since Carew Weyr is located where Ista Weyr would be in the published novels, it enjoys the same tropical type of climate. There are basically two seasons; the hot season and the rainy one.

Since our timeline starts during the end of the First Long Interval prior to the Fifth pass of the Red Star, AIVAS has not been found (nor will it be), none of the events of the 9th pass have taken place, and green dragons impressing to women is neither unheard of nor uncommon.

During the preceding turns, Pern has been enjoying the first of the prolonged intervals; four hundred long turns during which the Red Star has passed out of Pern’s orbit and Thread has not fallen upon the planet. Because of this, Thread is viewed at worst, as a myth, and at best, as a threat no longer. Only the most traditional and stalwart holders and craftsmen believe that the Threads will return. Even some dragonmen have become convinced that Thread is no more.

At this time, several factors have converged to put the future of the Weyrs and indeed, all of Pern, in grave peril. Due to the long interval, the Lord Holders are disgruntled at tithing to their beholden weyr. Such tithes have become skimpy and in some cases, have fallen off altogether. Dragonriders have fallen into planet-wide disfavor and are not being accorded the courtesies which were prevalent during earlier times. Most recently, in turn 1255, three turns before the pass is due to start, a virulent plague has swept through the populace and decimated the ranks of Dragonriders. Though the illness was not often fatal to humans, it happened to be one of the few zoonotic diseases which could affect dragons as well as people and it hit the dragon population far harder than the humans.

Many of Pern’s great dragons were killed by the illness, with the disease hitting those in the prime of their lives the hardest. Worse, of those Queens that are left after the plague, many have not risen in mating flights, though in the prime of their lives and are feared to be sterile. It is believed that those Queens who were but mildly stricken with the plague are still fertile, but no one knows what strange effects, if any, the illness will have upon future generations. The only thing that has possibly saved the dragon population is that just before the plaque hit, several clutches were laid, and several of them with Queen eggs.

Now, mid way through turn 1256, the plague has finally dwindled to an end, leaving the weyrs demoralized and filled with such ex-riders as did not suicide when their dying dragons went between and the grieving families, friends, weyrmates and lovers of those riders who could not bear life without their beloved lifemates.

Will the Weyr and indeed, all of Pern, be able to recover from the Plague before thread returns in less than 2 turns? That is the challenge which hangs over Carew Weyr as the residents struggle to regroup from the terrible tragedy which befell them.

~Current Events~

~Shayeth's oddly colored Gold egg hatched out twin Amber dragonets, presumably due to genetic aberration from the plague which affected their mother. These little beauties are unmistakeably of Gold heritage but with a curious green sheen over their bodies. They are assumed to have all the other characteristics of Gold dragons but until the twins rise to mate for the first time, it will not be known for certain. What other surprises will the plague have in store for Pern, if any?
~A Gold flight will occur as soon as we have enough bronze riders to make it interesting.
~A surprise plot event to keep things interesting will happen soon.
~A new pet will be discovered at Carew. Will one of these adorable creatures be
yours? Join and you may be lucky enough to receive one as a pet.

Ah... but what is goodbye.
« Result #10 on Sept 19, 2009, 5:25pm »

Many of the regulars have noticed that my characters have been in the inactive lists for a while now. Many of the originals here know that I have had a baby, who is now eight months old, am in school, and very busy in general. To avoid the really personal stuff, I'll stop there.

I have given this site over to Kyii lock, stock, and barrel. Yes, this is the original Bane writing this message, but after Sept. 26th, this forum belongs in its entirety to Kyii. Any and all problems pertaining to this site can be brought to her attention.

Because of this site, I almost lost a very good couple of friends. Frankly, this game is not worth it. This game is not worth the petty personal bull shit that is brought into it in so many places. This GAME is not worth the headaches and heartaches it has caused.

In the course of this game, I have realized I have a hard time saying "no" to people. That is a big weakness on my part. I can be very hard-hearted, and I can be very giving. The giving part just bit me on the ass a few too many times. I cannot risk losing good friends over something this... tedious.
